Michael invests in entrepreneurs building enterprise software and fintech companies. He is interested in working with founders building the next generation enterprise tools and fintechs solving the structural issues in finance. Deeply passionate about building the entrepreneurial community in fintech, Michael launched Canaan’s FinTech Central in 2015, a quarterly event series covering trends in fintech.

Michael has led Canaan’s investments and is a Board Director for Beam Solutions (financial compliance software), ContentSquare (marketing automation software), Hugo (non-standard auto insurance), and ScaleFactor (financial platform for SMBs). He is also a Board Director for Rocketrip (enterprise travel management) and sourced Canaan’s investments in Arbor (acquired by Acxiom), Bellhops (tech-enabled moving service), and Tari (open-source blockchain protocol for digital assets).

Previously, Michael advised technology companies with GCA Savvian and Matrix Capital. He advised companies such as TOA Technologies, Violin Memory and SpinMedia on their capital raises, and also TOA Technologies (Oracle), Keynote Systems (Thoma Bravo), Vitrue (Oracle) and LogLogic (Tibco) through their acquisitions.He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
